Screen
Dead pixels, marks, shadows
Fills the screen with one colour at a time. Look closely: a dead pixel or a mark shows up straight away on a solid colour.
Screen, touch, speaker, microphone, camera, vibration and sensors: put them through their paces from this page, before you even talk to us. Nothing to install.
This is for phones and tablets, not for computers: nearly every test needs the touchscreen, the motion sensors and the cameras, which a desktop or laptop either does not have or handles differently. Computers we diagnose in the workshop.
Run them in any order you like. At the end we tell you what failed and what it means.
These are an extract from iAudit, our diagnostics app for Android: what you get here is only the part a browser can check.

Areas that do not respond
Drag your finger across the whole grid until every square lights up. The ones that stay dark are areas where the touch does not respond.
How many fingers it reads at once
Put several fingers down together. A healthy phone reads at least five.
Sound, left and right channel
Plays a tone on the left, then the right, then both. If you only hear one, a speaker has gone.
The level actually coming in
Speak: the bar moves with your voice. If it stays still, the microphone is not recording.
Whether the motor responds
Vibrates the phone three times. It does not work on iPhone: Safari will not allow it.
Front and rear, focus
Turns the camera on and shows the preview. Look for fixed marks, haze or blur that will not clear.
Accelerometer and gyroscope
Tilt the phone: the numbers should move. If they stay at zero, the sensor is not responding.
On the phone the question is always the same: "it's not working properly, how much will it cost?". With these tests you arrive knowing what is wrong — and we can give you a far more accurate price, straight away.
These are the same checks we run in the workshop on every device that comes in. We put them here so you can run them yourself, free, even if you then decide not to have us repair it.
These tests are an extract from iAudit, the diagnostics app we build for Android: the app goes much deeper — real battery health, storage, performance, network — because a browser cannot read any of that. What is here is the part a web page can do.
